Three momentous events to report;
Firstly: A Druid’s Herbal of Sacred Tree Medicine is finally here! I got my first copies this week (week of June 9). Check it out in the “published works” section of my website!
Secondly: it appears that Ireland has possibly put a major brake on the creation of the EU. One reason for the NO vote was the continuing disappointment over the destruction of the Tara-Skryne Valley. Why didn’t the EU step in to preserve ancient heritage?
One more thing:
By now most of Pagandom is aware of the disturbing statement made by Kathy
Lee Gifford on the Today Show that described us as ‘nasty bad Pagans’. There
has been a concerted effort to contact the show’s sponsors, (the sponsor of that TODAY Show segment was Samsung. Its Chairman is Kun-Hee Lee; the President of its subsidiary, Samsung Electronics America Inc., is Dong-Jim Oh. Visit the Samsung website to see a popup form you can write a comment on) and to get messages to The Today show.
If any other religion had been insulted in this way Gifford would have been
sacked. But since we are a minority faith she apparently will get away with
the slur on our faith.
The good news is that Pagans are working together to address this issue and
there are things that every one of us can do
- View the You Tube video clip of the offending statement
- view Giffords wholly inadequate “apology” on this You Tube clip
- Email the Today Show with a well crafted and respectful request thatGifford issue a public apology to the Pagan community.
- Visit the petition site and post your own thoughtful comment
- write a physical letter and mail it to:
The Today Show at NBC
30 Rockefeller Plaza
New York, NY 10112
What I am personally doing, and I urge others to do the same, is to do EACH
of these things and then every few days print out a few pages of comments
from the petition site, add your own letter (be sure to ask for a response),
and then mail the packet to the Today Show.
It is long past the time when our religion should be treated this way by the
general public. By all accounts there are almost a million of us out there;
Druids, Wiccans, Witches, Heathens, Asatruar, Strega, and many others. We
deserve the same respect that any world religion would hope to receive.
