On the last day of February I look out the window and see patches of snow, frozen puddles, frozen leaves, rock hard mosses and bare ground. I am thinking of England where by now the daffodils must be waving at passersby. I am also thinking about stocking up my larder in case of a Corona virus quarantine and trying to finish the next book. It is still a very introspective time of year.
Today I noticed a huge woodpecker has been methodically stripping the bark off of a River Birch behind the house. I wondered why the trees nearby were toppling and dying and I suspect I now have the answer. I am trying to see it all as part of the natural order; the trees come down and more light comes in, so more herbs and trees can grow, which makes food for the animals.
As the Corona virus pandemic increases I am hearing estimates that as many as one billion people could eventually be affected. Nature is wiser than we are and perhaps she is trying, yet again, to thin the dangerously large herd of human animals that are eating the planet alive. Is everything working in harmony towards a greater good? I sure hope so.

BOOK AND WORKSHOP NEWS
The newest herbal will be out April 7 and can be pre-ordered here.
“A beautifully illustrated and lovingly researched book. An excellent resource for those interested in Celtic folklore and/or green witchcraft.” – Poppy Angell (NetGalley)
“A really interesting look at herbs and plants linked to this sabbat and time of year. Topics like the origins of Beltaine, the 3 worlds (Celts), some fairies, how to make some stuff and more. Nice for those who have an interest in herbs and the sabbat.” Alexandra R. (NetGalley)
The companion volume is the one below and you can order it from this website (and get a signed copy with a personal note) or find it in the usual places.
“Hopman describes in a fun and enjoyable manner approximately 30 herbs and their preparations for healing, and especially for communing with the benevolent Spirits and Fairies and protection from the malevolent ones. These herbs are also for purification, for their ability to facilitate journeys of divination, and for releasing and honoring the spirits of the dead on their journey into the other world.”
– Nicholas Brink PhD, author of “Ecstatic Soul Retrieval” (publisher – Inner Traditions / Bear & Co.)
